Muévete por la Igualdad. Es de Justicia Campaign

Muévete por la igualdad. Es de justicia” campaign is the result of a work that a group of developmental NGOs has been conducting in the last years to make visible both the discriminatory situation that women experience all around the world and the work carried out by these NGOs in different areas and places, but particularly in the Southern countries where they are based.

This campaign is aimed at raising public and political awareness in Spain, by showing the situation of the women in the South, and their struggle to improve their life conditions, promote their rights, and remark the need to meet international agreements signed by our governments.

The campaign has a national focus (although in constant dialogue with Southern countries). It will last for three years, 2007-2010, by the following developmental NGOs: Ayuda en Acción, Entreculturas and Intered. The campaign is funded by the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional (AECI), with the intention of involving additional partners.

It main aim is to promote the accomplishment of a non sexist citizenship that can have an effect on the implementation of The Beijing Platform for Action agreements and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Spanish government’s policies of development cooperation.

In order to achieve these goals, the first stages of this campaign seek to raise awareness among citizens in general, whilst the target in later stages would be agents with spreading capacity (women organizations, youth, educators, volunteers, media professionals), with the aim of engaging them in our demands. The campaign will end in 2010 focusing on policy makers, so that they can take actions in line with our proposals and transfer them to the international forums in which they take part.

The type of actions that we intend to implement include: Awareness raising, mobilization, political influence, promotion of solidarity links between women organizations in Spain and in Latin American and African countries, networks creation, and training for spreading agents.

The campaign will end in 2010, coinciding with the revision of the accomplishment of The Beijing Platform for Action goals and the MDG. Our demands, designed jointly by women and organizations in the South, will be transferred to the BPA and MDG revision forums.

DEMAND EQUALITY BY OUR OWN RIGHT. While social, political and economical structures that perpetuate inequality and gender discrimination remain, a sustainable human development will not be truly achieved.

BREAKING STEREOTYPES. Women are not passive victims. They struggle to abandon the discriminatory situation in which they live and to improve their life conditions.

PROMOTE EGALITARIAN PARTICIPATION BETWEEN WOMEN AND MEN in all decision-making realms, both in the public and the private space.

STRENGTHEN THE ECONOMY OF CARE. Women undertake more than half of total labour, but only a third of it is paid for. The value of labour can not be measured by its cash return, but for its contribution to social development.

EQUALITY IS NOT ONLY WOMEN’S MATTER. Equality concerns both men and women. We all share the duty and ability to achieve equality.

ENFORCING AGREEMENTS. Accomplishment of equality is the responsibility of all states that have agreed to ensure it. Equality is a women’s human right; states ought to ensure it.
